Children, Teens and Adolescents

Children (2-6), Adolescents (6-12) and Teens (13-18) who may be struggling at school, having trouble making friends, or seem difficult at home. We help teach them to identify and recognize their emotions, communicate properly and effectively, be sociable and interact with other people, and we help them work through any difficult emotions or feelings they may be having.

Children and Adolescents tend to express themselves symbolically through play, because they often lack abstract thought processes and adequate verbalization and communication skills at their age. We utilize unique and specific skills and techniques through Play Therapy to help them overcome their obstacles and be pleasant, happy kids!

Teens often need a person they can trust and confide in about their personal thoughts and emotions so that they can feel understood and heard. We offer a range of techniques, depending on the teen’s diagnosis, to help address their specific issues and needs.

Autism Spectrum & Neuro-divergent

We offer specialized services and treatments for autistic/neurodivergent children, adolescents, teens, and adults, which are provided by staff who are certified in AutPlay® Therapy or have extensive experience in the field. People diagnosed with Autism often struggle with unique barriers, which require unique ways and methods of overcoming those barriers. We can help with that!

“Neurodivergent” is a term used to describe people whose brains function differently in one or more ways than is considered standard or typical. This includes people who struggle with symptoms (but may not be officially diagnosed) of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), PTSD, Sensory Processing Disorder, BiPolar, and others.

In the office, we offer several fidget and sensory & regulation toys for everyone (children and adults) to use, we encourage movement, we have the ability to adjust the brightness of the lights, and all are encouraged to do as they need to feel most comfortable and exist in the space (for example, sitting or lying on the floor instead of the couch/chairs, standing or pacing around, multitasking during the appointment, not making eye contact, stimming or hand-flapping, etc.) . We don’t force social norms on you, so don’t worry about feeling obligated to shake anyone’s hand!
